New 2008 Rules

T-ball ages 4-6 rules

The following are the official Sorauren Park Association Rules for this league. We have designed these rules to support fair play, fun and continue building the player’s skills to the next level.

• It will be up to the coach of each team to determine if there are a minimum number of players present at game time for the game to be forfeit. The Umpire will confirm with the coaches after 15 minutes of grace from the scheduled start of the game after which the game will be called and the team at full strength will be awarded a default win.

• Each team will put an equal number of children up to bat. If one team has less players than the other team, the team with fewer players will bat children twice until the number of batters is even.

• An inning is once through the entire batting order. Each game will be 1-2 innings in length, depending on the time.

• Both teams may have coaches on the field to help, encourage and support their team, however, they must be careful not to interfere with the runner’s path between bases, the ball, or any of the fielders.

• The Umpire will call the plays from behind second base as this offers the best view of the entire playing field and the Umpire is not required to call Balls and Strikes.

• Verbal directions and/or positive reinforcement for participants are encouraged. However, there is to be no language or behaviour (i.e., shouting or yelling by parents or coaches) that is deemed to be excessive, abusive or intimidating to participants. Coaches should immediately request a time-out with the umpire(s) and discretely discuss the situation in private. It will be up to the umpire to mitigate the situation.

In order to stop the play, the fielders must get the ball and throw it to the home plate umpire. The Umpire will then call time. Runners stranded between third base and the half way point to home are out. The Umpire will count the number of players and subtract the number of outs at first and third base to determine the score per team, per inning.

The umpire may stand in front of home plate to ensure runners are not struck by the ball and assess the number of runners that reach home plate prior to the ball being thrown to the umpire.

• If a hit ball does not make it out of the white half circle in front of the plate, it is a dead ball and the batter must hit again.

• If the fielder at 1st gets the ball and touches the base before the runner gets there, the runner is out. This does not apply to 2nd or 3rd base (NOTE: The runner may continue to run the bases if desired, but the run will not be counted when they cross home plate).

• Runner must touch each base. If they do not touch the base (particularly home plate) they have to go back or the run will not count.

• The runners must be half way to the next base or more to advance to the next base when time is called. If they are less than half way, the umpire will send them back to the previous base. (Note: If a slower runner does not make it halfway but the runner behind them does, the first runner will automatically advance as well).

• Before it is last batter, any player on the fielding team can run in with the ball and touch the plate, if they do this before the runner coming home touches the plate, the run does not score.

• The Umpire must be notified when it is last batter. At this time the coach of the fielding team must put in a back catcher, if they don’t have one already, or choose one fielder whose job it is to get the ball and touch home plate while still holding the ball. The coach will then notify all players that they must get the ball to that person, even if they just hand it to him/her at the plate. The coach of the batting team should remind all the runners and batter that they are to keep running and touching all the bases until the Umpire signals that the play is over.

• The Umpire will score by starting with the number of batters and subtract 1 each time called out at 1st or home plate. (EXAMPLE: 12 players go up to bat, 2 are called out at first, 1 at home and 2 don’t make it home after last batter. The score would be 7 runs for that team in that inning)

• All Coaches and Players are reminded that we are here to have fun and that it is always important to exhibit good sportsmanship and a positive attitude.

• THE UMPIRE’S CALL IS FINAL
